If you would like to detect moving objects/persons and particularly detect if they approach or depart from the sensor, generally products based on the so-called radar technology are appropriated solutions.

Two different functionalities can still be distinguished:

• Unidirectional: this kind of sensors filters one of the two moving directions and goes only into detection in case of movement along the other direction.

• Bidirectional: this kind of sensors is sensitive to both directions and goes into detection in case of approaching and departing objects.

Some sensors also allow rejecting cross traffic (i.e. traffic parallel to the sensor) as well as differentiate between pedestrians and vehicles.
