Automation has become an ever increasing subject in the industry sector, mainly in order to simplify processes,  improve their performance and  make processes more reliable and safe.

Automated robots need to be navigated; in package or bag processing lines, the size and the position of the packages and bags have to be detected for further treatments. AGVs need to be navigated and collision has to be prevented. 2D or even 3D profiles of specific objects have to be established for further data treatment, for classifications, etc...
Specific sensing systems are required for all these purposes.

Solution

The LZR laser scanner platform, and in particular theLZR-U9xx raw data laser scanner family, can be used for these purposes. Laser measurement systems, such as the LZR-U9xx are solutions proven in many industrial applications.

The technology used by the LZR-U9xx provides a high degree of accuracy in distance measurement and in object detection, a high degree of flexibility and is less sensitive to external environmental interferences compared to other standard infrared solutions and cameras.

By using a dedicated software, the sensors belonging to the LZR-U9xx family can fit to several applications (as for ex. train doors safety, object and building security, profiling, navigation …).

For example, the LZR-U901 allows to take the profile of objects of different sizes, by communicating via a RS485 communication bus, the raw measurement data to the user for further calculations.
